alias fun

finished an illustration for Incite, and had some itch left in my hand, so i whipped up these quickie sketches.

updated Clinty

So Bobby says that the original clinty looked too flat, and didn't have enough contrast. Here is Clinty Part 2, and colourized a la bobby recipe.

more poker sketches

Grandpop of poker, Doyle Brunson. I kinda got lazy with his non-face areas. O well...folds are hard to draw. Now that i look at it he looks not too cartoony, yet not too realistic, which makes him slightly awkward...and friendly..lol o well

Hansen Sketches

I haven't updated this blog for a record of about 5 days....i must not let it happen again. Good thing i had some time to sketch a few things yesterday.

Gus Hansen. He plays poker. I drew him a little more perverted than I had hoped. Oh well. I will probably try to paint up a grayscale of him and colourize it this week. Yay.

tattoos

Last spring i volunteered to help my girlfriend design a tattoo of a dove...which she then rejected..lol...this year she gave me another chance, and this year the theme is music. she IS the music guru. Here are a bunch of designs i came up with after she had chosen the basic concept from a series of rough concept sketches.

I liked 3, 5 and 6. She chose number 6! There are little arrows next to 1-5 to show which way up they're supposed to go. So i'm gonna touch em up in photoshop, print it out and we're off to the parlour.

fist shaking chunny!

Chunny sometimes randomly enters my housemate's room in a towel, perhaps either holding a toothbrush as it vibrates in his hand or shakes his fist and leaves...we dunno why he does this...
but to celebrate this ritual that Chunny has, i've worked up this sketch of him. Next to his picture you'll find his random sayings to add to the fun. Let's see if you can decipher the last quote..it's from Starcraft! We've been playing that a lot, the addiction has returned.

This time i used the brush tool in Sketchbook pro, not the airbrush. Tuesday lurks, and i think we're going to be using colour in our work. YAY!

Alias Sketchbook Pro doodles!

So today after work i downloaded the trial version to Alias Sketchbook pro, so i can doodle, sketch, and add tone to my workings without having to use the resource hog of Photoshop. My laptop can barely handle it so Sketchbook Pro is handy in that regard. No slow downs, fast to start up and shut down, and gets the job done for quick doodles, like this one.

I am not sure if this is a disabled feature in the trial version but my pen pressure sensitivity doesn't teak the thickness of my lines....but nonetheless it gets the quick job done.

Played around with 'airbrushing'. I might prefer the painterly look more, guess we'll play around more with it and see!!

clinty

After many attempts at trying to paint a friend of mine from a picture reference in black and white (which resulted in frustration), i finally decided to relax and attempt to paint an example from class. Here's what came out. Now i will submitted it to Bobby, and see if i can get some input!

Digital Painting class

Attended my first Digital painting class last night at sheridan college, and for the first 30 minutes, we were to paint from reference what we could, as fast as we could so he could assess our abilities. This blocky piece is what came out of a picture of what i think was Ken Watanabe from Samurai.

So to add to my list of resolutions this year, for each week of the 9 classes i have digital painting, i will paint 2 pieces or so that week as 'practice' or homework to get opinions and input on.

Behold, the watanabe!

POST #1 of the new year!

What a great holiday! I haven't had this much fun without leaving the city in many years!! Thanks to the friends and family that made it happen! And thanks to those who are pushing me to achieve my goals for this year, and years to come!

While we're still on the Warcraft 3 thing, here's an orc face i doodled randomly....and skellie hands.

All i have to say is, TOWN! ok maybe it doesn't really look like him, but i DONT CARE.
